Summer School of Physics
In all its editions, the school has challenged its participants to make contact with different areas of physics, the main reason for randomly drawing among the participants. There are news in this 8th edition is new: at registration you will have the opportunity to indicate preference among three main profiles: Physics, Astronomy and Engineering Physics. If you dare, you can opt to not indicate a preference.
Established in 2005, the Summer School of Physics has introduced a new way of doing science outreach. The best high school students are challenged to spend a week in intensive work under the supervision of young researchers.
We invite you therefore to learn from us how to do research in physics today. In this school, you'll develop root your science project, through the stages of learning and research, experimental and computational implementation, presentation and discussion! To do this, you'll be in a group of five students under the guidance of a young researcher. During this week, you will also attend mini-courses on Einstein's Theory of Relativity, Astronomy, Photonics and on applications of nanotechnology to quantum mechanics, as well as participate in a number of popular science lectures.
It is a unique opportunity to release your curiosity and creativity, delving into fundamental issues, from the origin of the universe, to the latest technological innovations in the areas of telecommunications, applications to medicine and nanotechnology.
Intended Participants
Secondary school students (with priority for 11th grades) with and interest in science. In previous editions we welcomed students from around the country (mainland and islands), the Portuguese speaking African countries whose and Macau and Galicia.
