Pedro Gil Vieira wins a research award by the Government of Ontario
Pedro Gil Vieira, a physics graduate of Porto University, and longtime collaborator of Centro de Física do Porto, received an Early Research Award from the Ministery of Economy and Innovation of Ontario
ERA awards are prestige awards given to recent faculty members of Ontario. Each researcher receives $140 000.
Pedro Vieira received this award "Quantum Field Theory at Finite Coupling".
An important part of particle physics deals with situations in which the forces are weak and can be treated as a small perturabation to their free motion. Problems of strong forces (strong coupling) are much harder. That is the case, for instance, of the motion of quarks inside protons or neutrons at low energies. Pedro Vieira's work focuses on the development of mathematical tools to deal with such problems.
